You Didn’t Call, so I Read Jane Eyre


The artist climbs a precarious ladder in a tight dress and six-inch heels. At the top she reads the final chapter of Jane Eyre accompanied by a voice over. A second voice (the same one) begins to interrupt and question the original text. Her comments are sarcastic, humorous and reference the critique of Bronte’s novel by modern writers such as Joyce Carol Oates. The piece is both homage to and exploration of the changing social position of women.
